About Us
We believe that the church isn’t a place but rather a movement of people who love Jesus. With that, the ‘church’ happens every day! Alongside a typical Sunday service, we have small groups, events, prayer meetings, coffee groups, practices and other meetings every day of the week.
We believe in the transformative power of Jesus! We love to partner with God in what he is doing in our community. We do this practically with a community-based ministry called Impact, and regular street praying through Rolleston. In addition to regular events like pamper days, community days and other community-focused events.
Cornerstones mission is to see community transformation through the impact of understanding our identity in Christ and bringing Salt and Light into our workplaces, schools and homes.

What We Believe
In a nutshell, we believe in the Trinity, the redemptive acts of Christ on the cross, Water Baptism, Baptism of the Holy Spirit, and the ascension ministry gifts.

Specifically…

The one true and living God who eternally exists in three persons in unity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
​
The Divine inspiration and authority of the Holy Scripture.
​
The original perfection of creation; the inherent corruptness of humanity through the Fall; the necessity of repentance and regeneration by grace and through faith in Christ alone, and the eternal separation from God of the finally unrepentant.
​
The virgin Birth, sinless life, atoning death, triumphant Resurrection, ascension and continuing intercession of our Lord Jesus Christ, His Second Coming, and eternal Kingdom reign.

The justification and sanctification of believers through the finished work of Christ, their security as they remain in Him, and their future resurrection in an incorruptible body.

The Sacrament of Baptism by immersion, and of the Lord’s Supper.
The baptism of the Holy Spirit for believers with supernatural signs, empowering the Church for its mission in the world.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit for the building up of the Church and ministry to the world.

Christ’s leadership of the Church through the ascension ministries of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers for the unity, maturity, and growth of the Church.

The privilege and responsibility of wise stewardship of all that God has given, including the practice of tithing to the local church.

PRESENCE

Cornerstone Church is a community led by the Holy Spirit. We love encountering him individually and corporately too. For us what counts is daily encounters with God, experiencing his presence and leading. We are committed to the biblical outworking of the Spirit in all of us.

RELATIONAL

Cornerstone Church is about life, not just on Sunday, but through the whole week. We are an ever growing and interconnected family which loves, lives with, and serves each other. We are about creating environments where people connect with God, and connect with each other. We connect others to God with Jesus at the centre of it all.

AUTHENTIC

We believe God has designed each of us individually and uniquely. When put together, it is all of our backgrounds, experiences and gifts that make up Cornerstone Church's expression of the body of Christ. We want to honour being what God has called us to be. We value genuineness and people, over process or procedure. We are honest about our struggles, and we lead with integrity and transparency.

COMMUNITY

From our very beginning, Cornerstone Church has been a community and has also been a family. We are a family centered in Christ, and our goal is to have a unity which is created by Christ. We partner with God in his work of transforming lives and communities, both locally and globally. While being part of this, we hope to be transformed ourselves through the process. We love our wider community and have a focus on sharing God's love with people in genuine and authentic ways.

GROWING

Life is about growth. To be part of Cornerstone Church is to be growing in life and faith with no barriers. It's about a daily journey of genuine encounters with God. As we live for Jesus, we are being transformed by his power and for his purpose. In this process, we become more like him and more uncomfortable with being stagnent in our spiritual life.

Meet our Pastors
Ps. Andre Powell
LEAD PASTOR
Andre and his family have been living and pastoring in Rolleston since the beginning of 2017. Andre and Hannah have both been involved in ministry leadership for the past fifteen years.
The leadership of youth, worship teams, young adults and evening services have been just a few of the hats they have both worn until Andre was ordained in the Acts churches in 2015.
Ps. Lyndon Sutherland
ASSOCIATE PASTOR
Lyndon has a passion to see people meet Jesus. He and his wife Kath bring almost 30 plus years of church leadership background to Cornerstone Church. Lyndon is a natural leader and a gifted communicator.
Lyndon and Kath own and operate their own farm in Leeston. Lyndon was ordained as a credentialed minister in early 2020. They have four adult sons and lots of grandchildren too.
